The linked diagram shows position P relative to a star LOP with azimuths of 000°, 090°, and 225°.
The 000° and 090° azimuths are opposing to position P with d/2 being the fix point. Azimuth 225°(45°) shows the geometric center(bisected angle) at (.57)d.
It appears that the fix point for the puzzle will vary between (.5)d and (.57)d going from 000° to 045° in each quadrant.
