Regarding the recent discussion of the term "assumed position", I always thought the word 'assumed' was being used in a different sense. That being, "take on or adopt (a manner or identity), sometimes falsely" rather than, "suppose to be the case, without proof". I never thought of it as "assuming I am at location X", but instead, "if I were at location X". Then I basically figure out what the sky would look like there and see how far away I am from that and in which direction. Just my two cents.

Isn't the equation John gave in his post here supposed to be "cos LHA = sin Ho - (sin Dec..."?
