I'm new to navigation and have been
lurking on the list a while but I have had good , not perfect, results with the
few moon sights I have taken. All in a bucket of water due to being surrounded
by mountains at the time. This was using my Freiberger sextant.
Having spent ten days looking at every
entry in the Logs of the Clipper Flying boats 1934-36, I noticed that Fred
Noonan used the moon extensively. As did the navigators he taught. Which begs
the question...did he use the moon which was available in the vicinity of
Howland Island on the morning of July 2, 1937.?
