....on the various non-intersecting communities.. In the UK anyone wanting to learn celestial navigation for the purpose of navigating on ocean passages on a yacht takes the RYA Yachtmaster Ocean shorebased course (https://www.rya.org.uk/courses-training/exams/Pages/yachtmaster-ocean.aspx) . It includes things like tropical weather and passage planning as was as celnav. The syllabus is on the Hamble web site. https://www.hamble.co.uk/yachtmaster-ocean-theory-syllabus I expect the majority of British bluewater yachtspeople do the course, buy a (secondhand) Davis sextant and never think about joining any forum. It probably never occurs to them to search for celestial navigation as they have only heard it called "astro navigation". I expect they do look for some Youtube videos by Tom Cuncliffe on how to adjust a sextant. Bill
