Dear all, as far as I can remember Robin Knox Johnston may have the first person who sailed non-stop around the world alone arriving at the harbour where he left, but the first single handed circumnavigator seems to have been Joshua Slocum. And the first person who has sailed around the globe crossing his outbound track - which I would qualify as sailing around the world - was Bernard Moitessier. He was in the same race with Knox-Johnston - I think even in the lead - but chose not to return to the starting point but to sail on to Polynesia. When he dropped his anchor there it certainly was the longest leg ever sailed by one person alone.
