Found the problem. Although the message
said "the application was successfully installed", it had not
installed at all. Re install and works just fine. Thanks to all.

I reiterate:
I downloaded and successfully installed CDFPlayer_9.0.1_LINUX.sh in my desktop Ubuntu 14.04, however the CelestialNavigation.cdf will not play. Says there is no application that will open it. Any suggestions?

Hi Philip,
On Windows and Mac, there is a browser Plug-In in the CDF Player download. Which enables the you to interact with the application directly in the web browser enviroment. Not so with Linux. Where there is no browser Plug-In. So in the Linux case you need to download the application. Before being able to use it.
Maybe this is the cause of the problem?
Best regards
Hans
