    Folger Library Longitude Exhibit
    From: Jackson McDonald
    Date: 2015 Apr 5, 14:42 -0700

In collaboration with the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C., is hosting an exhibit called "Ship, Clocks & Stars: The Quest for Longitude" now through August 23.

I visited the exhibit this afternoon.  It contains numerous nautical instruments, chronometers, documents, paintings, etc. on loan from
Greenwich.  Most of the instruments and documents are authentic, though there are a few replicas and copies, too.

It's a nice collection, well worth your time if you plan to be in Washington, D.C., over the next few months.

    Brochure attached.

The large format "coffee table" book published in conjunction with this exhibit has numerous high-quality color photographs and what appears to be an excellent text (I haven't finished reading it yet).  It has a hefty list price of $75 but is available from Amazon for $47.   https://www.amazon.com/Ships-Clocks-Stars-Quest-Longitude/dp/006235356X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1428269597&sr=8-1&keywords=ships+clocks+and+stars

Our colleague David Barrie might be interested in learning that his recently published book also features prominently in the library's gift shop.
