Very interesting report indeed, which I read with the eyes of a former Airline Pilot.
It has been interesting to see how modern vessels auto-pilots too use both "heading mode" or "track mode" (found on Airbus A/C and maybe/hopefully on the latest Boeing A/C) and also implement upcoming heading changes ... within strict limitations which must be totally understood, which apparently was not the case here with this 31 second too late command.
Now I am just curious to know whether the new "auto-pilot track" was immediately displayed or not to the auto-pilot operator ...
Had this been the case, was it possible to immediately and EASILY disconnect the auto-pilot (which is a feature quite well implemented on A/C of all kinds) ?
