Yes, indeed! When possible, it's best to refer to a message with a link. If you want to show the full address for the message, you can use either the long URL or a short one which includes just the base part and the message number (and in these latter cases, you should also try to link it if you can). For example, the message of yours which I am currently replying to could be referred to...
- with a simple link: here's your message,
- or with the long url: http://fer3.com/arc/m2.aspx/HO-211-with-Sadler-method-DavidC-jul-2016-g36058,
- or with the short version: http://fer3.com/arc/m2.aspx/g36058.
They all go to the same place.
