I don't have a chartplotter on my boat and I've never seen one boot
up. But I've seen plenty of built-in automobile navigation systems
boot. All require the user to press a button acknowledging that
the auto manufacturer is not responsible for the accuracy of the
data before they'll allow you to use the system.

That might be true, but via his use spelled sale thereof, I asasume they were selling this stuff, it strikes me that the seller has assumed responsibility for the accuracy of what he was selling.
