Gentlemen,
My understanding is that the difference between a hack watch and a pocket watche is the hack is a complication that stops the balance wheel from moving when you pull the setting crown out allowing the seconds to be matched wherein a regular watch when you pull out the crown the seconds keep running and only allows you to set the hours and minutes.

David CAh well, that explains things. I couldn’t quite see how your statement fitted the thread. I regret I completely missed the connection with the earlier lines. Bedford Incident was a great book and film. As far as I recall ‘fire one’ were the last spoken words of the film. DaveP
