    Re: Working Model MHR1 Sliderule

    Brad, Alan,

3D printing the knobs, tube end caps and other fittings reduces the need for tooling considerably but the construction still requires a measure of drilling, sawing, gluing and painting.  My MHR1 working model contains multiple materials and therefore needs a Star Trek replicator rather than a 3D printer for push button design.

It might be possible to 3D print a nearly complete slide rule, tubes and all, but in that case it would probably be worthwhile departing from the strict Bygrave/MHR1 design to produce a modern version that considers ease of manufacture. In that regard there is quite a lot to be gained by getting the friction between the tubes to be just right so as to allow the locking mechanism to be eliminated. I expect that the scales would need to be printed and attached separately,

    Regards,

    Robin
